Abnormal uterine bleeding in adolescents
2022, Current Problems in Pediatric and Adolescent Health CareCitation Excerpt :5,7 Studies show that at one year of use, fewer than 10% of depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) and progestin intrauterine device (IUD) users, and about 25% of progestin implant users, report regularly monthly cycles.17 Though the exact mechanism of bleeding irregularity from progesterone-only use is unknown, studies suggest it may be due to reduced endometrial proliferation and stabilization.7,17,18 It is also well known that the non-hormonal copper intrauterine device can cause AUB.5
