2003, PsychosomaticsCitation Excerpt :Still, the results suggested a significant association between chest pain and anxiety, especially in patients with normal coronary angiograms, that has led to further investigation into the association between panic disorder and chest pain. Since these seminal studies, at least 20 published reports have examined the prevalence of panic disorder in patients with chest pain.25–29,35–51 Three major studies in emergency departments found high rates of panic disorder among patients seeking evaluation of chest pain25,26,35 (Table 1).
