These recent developments, along with epidemiologic surveys showing the high frequency of anxiety disorders in the general population as well as in the primary care population, have reemphasized the importance of anxiety disorders in family practice. This review presents treatment recommendations, including dosage, products, guidelines for monitoring, and discontinuation. Advances in the neurobiology of anxiety are also included.
