Glucagon‑Like Peptide‑1-Based (GLP‑1) Therapeutics in Family Medicine

OVERVIEW

Family physicians increasingly prescribe glucagon-like peptide-1-based (GLP-1) therapeutics, and the indication for their use continues to expand.  We are soliciting papers that explore the clinical uses and experience of practicing family physicians with these medications. 

PRIORITY TOPICS

We welcome a variety of methodological approaches for this theme issue, with particular interest in descriptive and effectiveness studies in primary care, including pragmatic comparative effectiveness studies. The following research topics are of high priority for this theme issue:

  • GLP-1 prescription in community practice
  • Implementation science studies of GLP-1 implementation in primary care
  • Short and long-term side effects of GLP-1s
  • Patient expectations and experiences with GLP-1s
  • Cost and insurance coverage implications
  • Patient access to GLP-1 therapeutics
  • GLP-1 medication adherence
  • Long-term primary care outcomes of GLP-1s
  • Approaches to long term stabilization or discontinuation of GLP-1 therapy
  • Impact of GLP-1 demand and use on clinician workload
