Climate and Health

OVERVIEW

We are soliciting papers that explore the effects of climate and climate changes on health and health care.  We seek research, review, and commentary manuscripts on how climate has, and will potentially, shape the future for family physicians, their patients, their communities, and the larger health system.

TOPICS

The following examples of high priority research topics for this theme issue:

  • Changing patterns of disease and the provision of primary care driven by climate issues (e.g. mosquito-borne illnesses, respiratory illnesses, heat injuries)
  • Clinician-partnered community health approaches to health-related climate issues
  • Medical and healthcare system initiatives to address climate-related problems
  • The unequal impact of climate and environmental stress on communities (e.g., environmental stress, clean water access, air quality)
  • How clinicians can help address climate as individuals and for individual patients
  • Health policy implications of ongoing climate change that impact patient care
  • Environmental factors that affect disease incidence, treatment decisions, and health outcomes
  • Primary care’s role in the response to climate related disasters

DEADLINE

The deadline for consideration for this theme issue is June 1, 2023. Please let us know if you plan to submit by sending an email message here to Mr. Phil Lupo, Managing Editor. Manuscripts should be submitted through the Editorial Manager system.
