The results of this study are certainly discouraging. The electronic medical record provided important reminders to the physicians, which they ingnored. There may be practical reasons for this in most cases, like attending to the immediate needs of the patient, but there is no excuse for patients not being offered recommended preventive services. This problem will not likely get fixed until the physicians are held accountable for the quality of care they provide, including the regular use of preventive services. |
